Here is our November PJ Library Family of the Month! Hannah, Ryan, Norah (4), and Nate (9 months) live in Ellicott City. Norah attended the Greater Montessori School and misses it! Ryan is a Lawyer and Contract Specialist and Hannah is an Instructional Team Leader for Special Education in the public school system. Read below to find out more about them and their love of PJ Library!
Why is PJ Library important in your home? Getting our PJ library books in the mail every month is so much fun! My kids really look forward to opening the packages and seeing the new books. It's been doubly exciting now that the baby gets them too. My four-year-old is learning so much about holidays and traditions through repeated readings of her favorite stories. During the pandemic, we have been participating in virtual Shabbat Tots and it's been such a special way to differentiate Friday from the rest of the week. It reminds us to slow down and embrace traditions as a family.
How has PJ Library influenced your family's Jewish living and decisions? We often read books at bedtime and pull out the holiday ones relevant to that time of year to display in our playroom. It helps our four-year-old connect to Jewish culture and helps us to create new traditions as a family. We talk a lot about how different families have different traditions and celebrate different holidays. PJ Library helps our kids connect to their Jewish culture while continuing to learn about all different traditions.
What was your favorite PJ Library program? We really enjoy the Rosh Hashanah apple picking trip at Butler's Orchard. We were sorry that it could not take place this year. We love the opportunity to pick apples with other families and read Rosh Hashanah books together outside. It is a great way to celebrate the holiday and connect with other families raising young Jewish children.
What is your bedtime routine with your little ones? Our bedtime routine includes a bath, putting on pajamas, and snuggling up together to read books. PJ Library books are very frequent in our rotation and I always make sure that we read about approaching holidays.
We hope you enjoyed getting to know the Kaufman Family this month! If you'd like to be featured as an upcoming Family of the Month, send Allison an email.
