We are thrilled to feature the Frankel family as our August Family of the Month! Please meet Joel, Leah, Eli (4), and Noah (16 months). They moved to Columbia a month ago from St. Louis! They have just begun exploring Howard County and are thrilled to join our community. Eli will start at Temple Isaiah Preschool in the fall. Noah will join him when he's old enough! Joel is the new Executive Director of the Jewish Federation of Howard County. Leah is a Clinical Social Worker, Parent Educator, and Lactation Counselor. Read all about their love for PJ Library!
How did you hear about PJ Library? We heard about PJ Library from the Jewish community in St. Louis.
Why is PJ Library important in your home? We appreciate the power of early literacy and reading together in our family. PJ Library gives us that wonderful opportunity in addition to providing beautiful, meaningful stories that enrich our connection to Judaism.
How has PJ Library influenced your family's Jewish living and decisions? We love that PJ Library gives us connections to holidays that are lesser known. We get to learn about and even celebrate holidays we may not have otherwise. We also love books centered around mitzvot (good deeds) and tikkun olam (repairing the world); certain books truly inspire us and give Eli a Jewish connection to caring for others and being kind.
What is your favorite PJ Library program? We’ve been in Columbia for about a month now and we’ve been to two awesome PJ Library Programs so far - Shabbat Tots and a play date. We loved the singing, stories, being outdoors, and connecting with other families at Shabbat Tots. We all had a great time meeting other families and playing at the play date, as well as the book swap!
What is your bedtime routine for your little ones? We love this question! I am very lucky to have opportunities to read to the boys all day long, but Joel gets to snuggle up and read with Eli each night while I nurse and get little brother, Noah, to sleep.
