Bridges to Housing Stability - Wish List

Bridges to Housing Stability is a non-profit organization that works to provide a path to self-sufficiency to prevent and end homelessness through affordable housing solutions and advocacy in Howard County, Maryland.

How to Volunteer:

Register at the link, and then purchase household items from their Wish List (click here to view). Drop off donations to the Federation on December 18-21 between 9am and 4pm.

FedTov - Purchase Gift Cards

FedTov is a corp of committed volunteers who assist the Jewish Federation of Howard County’s Social Worker by positively affecting the quality of life of at-risk Jewish residents in Howard County. Their goal is to improve everyday life by connecting resources, volunteers, and goods and services with Jewish residents who experience ongoing needs in Howard County.

How to Volunteer:

Register at the link, and then purchase Gift Cards in the amount of at least $10 for Target, Giant, Walmart, and Gas Cards. Drop them off to the Federation on December 18-21 between 9am and 4pm.

Grassroots Crisis Intervention Center - Blankets

Grassroots Crisis Intervention Center provides 24/7 access to behavioral health, crisis, and homeless services for individuals and families. Support clients of Grassroots by purchasing new twin-sized blankets and donating them to the center.

How to Volunteer:

Register at the link. Purchase new twin-sized blankets for Grassroots and drop them off at the Federation on December 18-21 between 9am and 4 pm.

Grassroots Crisis Intervention Center - Wish Lists

Grassroots Crisis Intervention Center provides 24/7 access to behavioral health, crisis, and homeless services for individuals and families. Help children living at Grassroots enjoy their Christmas by filling their wishlists! You will receive information about what they need and want. Please drop off wrapped gifts with no notes — simply write the child's name on the outside of each wrapped gift. Purchase as many items from the list as you are able. There are currently 17 children in residence.

How to Volunteer:

Register at the link. You will be contacted by December 1 with information about a child you are supporting. Once you purchase gifts, please wrap them and label them with the child’s first name (no other labels or words). Drop off gifts to Federation on December 18 or 19 between 9am and 4pm.

Habitat for Humanity - Build Site

Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit organization that helps families build and improve places to call home. They believe affordable housing plays a critical role in strong and stable communities. Volunteer to work at a Habitat for Humanity Build Site to help complete a new home for a family to purchase through Habitat for Humanity!

How to Volunteer:

Register at the link. 16- & 17-year-olds can volunteer ALONG WITH an adult 18+ (although they cannot use power tools). Those aged 18+ can volunteer on their own. Shifts are on December 20 and 21, 8:30am – 3:30pm. Additional information will be available about what to wear and bring with you to the build site. Note – volunteers will need to fill out additional forms from Habitat for Humanity.

Habitat for Humanity - ReStore in Columbia

Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit organization that helps families build and improve places to call home. They believe affordable housing plays a critical role in strong and stable communities. Volunteer to work at Habitat’s Columbia, MD ReStore. Proceeds from ReStore sales support Habitat for Humanity’s mission to transform lives of working families by building safe, sustainable and affordable homes, working in partnership with qualified families, community volunteers, local organizations and area businesses.

How to Volunteer:

Register at the link. 14- & 15-year-olds can volunteer ALONG WITH an adult 18+. Those aged 16+ can volunteer on their own. Shifts are on December 19 and 20, 10:30am – 2pm. Note – volunteers will need to fill out additional forms from Habitat for Humanity.

Johns Hopkins Howard County Medical Center Food Pantry

Johns Hopkins Howard County Medical Center combines the convenience of a full range of hospital and wellness services, more than 1000 affiliated doctors in nearly 100 clinical specialties, award winning clinical excellence and membership in Johns Hopkins Medicine, one of the country’s premier academic medical systems. The Medical Center hosts a food pantry for employees throughout the hospital. Current deliveries from the Food Bank in Columbia aren’t enough for the demand. Help the hospital’s employees with much needed food supplies to supplement their needs. Donations include pasta, pasta sauce, rice, nuts, vegetable oil, and peanut butter.

Luminus Network for New Americans

The Luminus Network for New Americans has worked to serve Maryland-based immigrants for over 40 years through legal, social, language, and employment services. Items donated will support low-income immigrants and refugees, primarily Howard County based Latinos, Afghans, and Ukrainians. Please donate any size of children’s diapers and diaper wipes.

How to Volunteer:

Register at the link, and then drop off donations to the Federation on December 18-21 between 9am and 4pm.

Project Linus - Make Blankets

Project Linus provides new handmade blankets to children in need. Join us for a blanket-making session with the Project Linus lead volunteer in Howard County. Open-house style (come anytime between 4-6pm). Snacks served along with the fun of creating blankets together! Participants should bring 1.5-2 yards of fleece and sharp scissors, if available. (Not minky fleece.) All ages welcome.

How to Volunteer:

Register at the link, and then meet on December 21 between 4-6pm at Oakland Mills Interfaith Center in Room 200. Thanks to Kol Nefesh, Columbia Jewish Congregation, B’Yachad, and Bet Aviv for partnering on this project!

Running Brook Elementary School - Recess Wish List

Help students at Running Brook Elementary School enjoy recess – everyone needs a break! Their supplies have dwindled and you can assist by purchasing items for the school.
