About the Event
The Talmud (The Mishnah and Gemorrah) is one of the richest and most complicated works of Jewish literature. Since being composed around 1500 years ago, it has inspired not only religious reverence but significant intellectual engagement by Jews across the denominational spectrum — including secular Israelis. In this 3-week series adult learners will be introduced to the unique characteristics of this text and the challenges that inhere in studying it— as we look at distinct 'sugiyot' (selections) each week. In doing so, we aim to develop an appreciation for how the Talmud works and why it continues to inspire religious devotion and intellectual curiosity. Talmud texts will be provided in the original and in English. Open to anyone interested in jumping into the "Sea of Talmud" and swimming a few laps together...
