Mindy, Perry, Micah (3), and Clara (1) are our April PJ Library Family of the Month! The Gorelik family lives in Fulton and has attended Shabbat Tots weekly for the past 4 years.
Why is PJ Library important in your home?
PJ Library is important to us because it helps us teach our children about our family’s values and traditions. From the time our kids were very young, we have participated in Shabbat Tots, attended PJ Library events, and read PJ Library books. This helps instill the importance of Judaism in our children’s lives and nurtures relationships with other Jewish families.
What are your favorite PJ Library programs?
Our favorite programs are Mitzvah Day and Shabbat Tots. We have gone to Mitzvah Day the past two years and it has become a wonderful tradition and way for us to give back to the community. My older son, Micah, especially enjoyed making the blessing bags and gifts for the homeless and less fortunate. We have been fortunate to be able to participate in Shabbat Tots with both children. They love learning many Jewish songs (especially “The Dinosaur Song”), making new friends, and eating delicious challah!
What did you like most about hosting a PJ Library Get Together?
We are extremely grateful to have had the opportunity to host a PJ Library Get Together. During our event, we shared the mitzvah of making blessing bags for the homeless with our friends. Together the children made 8 bags, which they took home and handed out. We look forward to hosting another Get Together over Passover.
What is your bedtime routine with your little ones?
Our bedtime routine begins with bath time. Once everyone is in pajamas, our kids each pick three books to read (this often includes at least one PJ Library book). Following the stories, we play “The Goodnight Game” where we say goodnight to all of the characters in the books as well as the things we did that day. Then, we talk about what we have to look forward to the next day. Finally, we end each night with showers of goodnight hugs and kisses.
Thank you to Mindy, Perry, and the Gorelik family for sharing your love of PJ Library! If you'd like to be featured in an upcoming PJ Library newsletter as our Family of the Month, email Allison Weil at AWeil@JewishHowardCounty.org.
