B’ruchim Habaim! (Welcome!),
My name is Carmel and for those of you who haven’t met me yet, I’m the Jewish Federation's Shlicha (emissary) from Israel. I came to Howard County for one year to bring a little bit of Israel with me. No, I’m not talking about selling dead-sea products or soil from the holy land. I brought with me all my Israeli and Jewish experiences in life to share with the community (from tots to teens to adults) through programs, lectures, pictures, stories and more.
This week in Israel we celebrate two important days- Yom HaZikaron and Yom Ha’atzmaut. Yom Ha’atzmaut is Israel’s Independence Day and for the 67th birthday of Israel, I made a special “present”, just for you- the community. I brought a little bit of Israel through my eyes. In the next ten days, this part of the website will be dedicated to variety of topics about Israel: food, culture, places and more. Today is an intro and will tell about the Shlichut program and the partnership between the Federation and the other organization that helped bring me here to the US, the Jewish Agency For Israel (JAFI).
Visit every day to check the daily topic! Hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed making it,

Since 1929, the Jewish Agency has been working to create and maintain a vibrant Jewish future. They are partners with the Jewish Federation in providing assistance to Jews in Israel and elsewhere in the diaspora. The Jewish Agency was instrumental in founding and building the State of Israel and continues to serve as the main link between the Jewish state and Jewish communities everywhere. This global partnership has enabled JAFI to address the Jewish People’s greatest challenges in every generation.
Today, they connect the global Jewish family, bringing Jews to Israel, and Israel to Jews, by providing meaningful Israel engagement and facilitating Aliyah. They build a better society in Israel - and beyond - energizing young Israelis and their worldwide peers to rediscover a collective sense of Jewish purpose.
JAFI continues to be the Jewish world’s first responder, prepared to address emergencies in Israel, and to rescue Jews from countries where they are at risk. From shlichim programs, to Aliyah, to helping at-risk youth, to MASA programs for diaspora teens – JAFI connects Jews with Israel, with one another, with their heritage, and with our collective future.
