Commemorating the High Holidays in Howard County

The Jewish Federation of Howard County and the Howard County Board of Rabbis invite you to prepare for and celebrate the High Holidays with the HoCo community!

  • #HoCoShofar

Thursday, August 20 at 7:00 pm
Show your shofar pride! Join the community on the first day of the Jewish month of Elul for a coordinated shofar blowing event in Howard County! At 7:00 pm, a time we chose to pay tribute to our community's healthcare workers, blow the shofar at home (toy shofars welcome), take a photo or video, and post it to social media with the hashtag #HoCoShofar.

  • Elul: Entrances to the Days of Awe

    Weekdays, August 20-September 17
Prepare yourself for the Days of Awe and be inspired! Throughout the Jewish month of Elul, Howard County Rabbis and leaders will share a daily intention on video in preparation for the High Holidays! Watch our intro video below and catch the updated list of videos on Youtube.

  • Selichot: An Evening of Reflection, Prayer, & Community

Saturday, September 12 at 8:30 pm
Join congregations across Howard County for havdallah, followed by a dynamic, interactive program exploring identity through the lens of the remarkable Inge Ginsburg, a Holocaust survivor now known as "Death Metal Grandma." A communal selichot service, penitential prayers, and inspiration in preparation for the Days of Repentance will follow.
