“Leviticus takes its cue from the covenantal charge delivered in Exodus 19:5-6: “Indeed, all the earth is Mine, but you shall be My kingdom of priests and holy nations.” How Israel was to realize the divine program is the burden of the Book of Leviticus….Historically, the laws, celebrations, and purifications of Leviticus served as part of the structure of later Judaism.”
-- Dr. Baruch A. Levine
After exploring in detail the books of Genesis and Exodus, we enter into the world of Leviticus. This one room schoolhouse will explore the sound, translation, and interpretation of this ancient Hebrew text. We will discuss its meaning in the biblical world as well as the vital role it played in the development of halachah, Jewish law. All are welcome! If you have any questions or concerns please contact Rabbi Sonya Starr, rabbistarr@columbiajewish.org.
