The Jewish Genealogy Society of Greater Washington in Howard County will hold its first meeting at Vantage House in Columbia. This program will set a framework for future monthly meetings on all aspects of genealogy, but most particularly on Jewish Genealogy. We will begin with who we are and the resources that we can bring to our member participants. Future meetings will have guest speakers who will address various techniques and tools available to genealogists.
This meeting will be hosted by Marlene Katz Bishow, Past President of JGSGW, now a resident of Columbia. With more than sixty years of experience in researching her own Jewish familiy from Russia (now Belarus) and Galicia (now Ukraine), Marlene has also mentored genealogists, lectured to many Jewish organizations, and conducted numerous workshops. She is the author/editor of five books, including Capital Collections: Jewish Genealogical Research in the Washington, DC Area. In 2011, Marlene was the lead Co-Chair of the 31st International Conference on Jewish Genealogy; held in Washington, DC, the conference attracted more than 1,300 attendees from 39 states and 17 countries.
