Haberman Institute Conversations: Ideas and Events Shaping American Jewish Life (Session #2)
with David Epstein

Session 2: American Jewry Today
We will continue to reflect on the American Jewish experience with a deep dive into today’s realities. Our discussion will be both personal and universal and will include conversations around such topics as:

What does it mean to say, “I am proud to be Jewish?”

What does it mean to say, “I am a Jewish American?”

Who has a Jewish survival strategy? Religious Jews, secular Jews, or a different path?

What are the origins of post-Holocaust anti-Semitism, and how does it persist in today’s America?

Is there a paradox in building a Jewish survival strategy based on the Holocaust?

The Pittsburgh Platform of Reform Judaism (1885) and thereafter.

Where does the State of Israel fit into the discussion? How do you shape your narrative about Israel?
