Although the history of Baltimore Jews mirrors that of the rest of American Jewry in many ways, the geography and demography of Baltimore, in some ways Northern and in some ways Southern, made the history of the city's Jewish community unique.
This year’s Gene Klein Scholar-in-Residence speakers are DEBORAH R. WEINER and MARVIN PINKERT. Dr. Weiner is co-author of the recently-published On Middle Ground: A History of the Jews of Baltimore. Mr. Pinkert is Executive Director of the Jewish Museum of Maryland. They’ll talk about the unique history of Jewish Baltimore, with some discussion of what the museum offers about the history of the Jews in Howard County. The book will be available for purchase. The cost, which includes a box lunch, is $15 per person for Bet Aviv members and $18 for guests. For additional information and to register, click here.
